Identity crisis

Some shops and buildings on HK Island are displaying signs of an identity crisis.

This mini mall looks back wistfully at its former days as a high-security complex:

This building goes through phases. It is currently trying to give up smoking:

This shop clearly thinks it's the bee's knees when it comes to fashion. Heck, it thinks it IS fashion:

Others have no identity issues at all. They are just eager to serve.

Oh Pui...

Pui O is one of my favourite Lantau spots. It has a stunning beach. It has buffalo. It has singing frogs, tiny toads and cattle egrets. So what if locals and mainland tourists were recently bickering about space to pitch their tents at the seaside campsite? Now Golden Week is over, life in Pui O has gone back to its usual pace.

For more 'photo fragments' of HK, take a look at Mr Bijou's blog (which appears to be on a hiatus) or Ilbonito's.

Always greener

There aren't many places where you can walk on a true lawn in Hong Kong.

So, when surrounded by real grass, people can sometimes appear absorbed; lost in green space.

A sack of rice or a sack of cement ... without looking too closely, they are not so different.
